BillMarkSteve Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 12/10/2014: Thank God, No Government Shut-Down From Friday, 12/12/2014 Reports indicate that legislative leaders of both parties struck a deal to pass temporary funding bill to keep the federal government open beyond tomorrow which legislative bill will be passed tomorrow, supposedly the last date for the lame duck Congress. The Obama immigration action programs will however face funding challenges in early next year since funding bills will not include DHS funding for Obama immigration actions implementation once this temporary bill expires early next year. Therefore another confrontation is expected ahead after this temporary funding legislation. Otherwise, the country will not witness another government shut-down until 09/30/2015 since the deal includes Omnibus Approations for the federal government through the end of FY 2015, except the Obama immigration action programs. For now, the country will experience a relief from the government shut-down anxiety. The immigration programs would not have been totally unaffected, had there been a government shut-down, since the USCIS could have remained open using their fee-funded budget, but immigration programs are being operated not in vacuum. Since the USCIS' brothers and sisters' stakeholder agencies within the DHS such as ICE, CBP, etc., and outside of the agency such as DOL, DOS, and others willl have to be closed, the immigration programs could have witnessed crippled as well.
