US blacks are a lot more sensitive to racial issues, than blacks from Africa, Carribean, Europe.

I always enjoy offending people, but not the underclass who are already suffering from injustices in a system.

so while I'd enjoy a conversation with a white man in the US, the conversation with black man will likely be me agreeing to everything he'd say.

There are other countries in the world where such visible underclasses don't exist. So I have the option to opt out of US.

So Blacks are underclass and injustice is being served to them in US if that what you meant I don't agree with you.Blacks don't go to schools they are addicted to drugs and they ruin their lives and economically they are staying there.We people from some other country are able to survive why aren't they.Those guys are good at heart but they have to change their style of living .Muslims in India and Blacks in US sail on same boat .

People like you have romantic notions about the downtrodden and the poor. You have a need to romanticize everything they do in life and from your vantage point see it as something that they do because of the oppression from the higher ups in society.

Even I used to think the same but after a lot of interaction with people from the working class that you referred to in your incident, I realized that they don't think of it that way. In fact they can't afford to in their situation. You and me can afford the luxury of sitting in front of a laptop and sipping hot mugs of coffee and thinking about a lot of things and intellectualize them.

You say you just want a casual banter where you can pass cheeky statements against/for a section of people and when they don't take it in a manner that you expect them to it bothers you. On the other hand (in case of the oppressed in India) you can mostly get away by doing that but you won't want to. And infact you want to sympathize with them and as I said romanticize the situation. 

You sound like the many people I listen to on the TV debates who want the poor to remain poor so that you can sympathize with them from a distance without trying to do anything to help them and the moment someone from that section stands up against stereotyping them and their lifestyle it bothers you. 

You want them to feel miserable about their lives and that they should not find dignity in what they chose/had to choose to do for a living.

You never cared to think what the father and the son think about their line of work. May be they feel proud of what they do and find dignity in it.

I am not saying they shouldn't aim for a better life. 

If a kid from a well to do family does a feat that would involve something like standing on the rooftop without any protective steps - just for the heck of it or some record - you will not show any sympathy towards that kid. Just because he is not doing it out of a compulsion to make a living will not make it any less dangerous. But the context totally changes the way you look at it.

 

 

I follow this DB regularly and mostly these kind of posts. But I never participate because nothing comes out of these kind of debates/arguments.
