Andhra Pradesh State Government is making Aadhaar mandatory for driving licenses and vehicle registration.

 

The Minister for Transport Sidda Raghava Rao had already held discussions with the oil companies HPCL, BPL and IOC heads in this directions. Following the acceptance of the oil companies for the proposal moved by the government, a GO would be issued shortly making mandatory seeding of Adhaar at petrol stations. Sources said that there were 72 lakh vehicles with 41 lakh driving licenses in all the 13 districts of the State.

The efforts by the government to link Aadhaar with driving license, Certificate of Registration for the last four months could not get the desired results. It may be noted here that the process in Gudivada in Krishna district and Nandyal in Kurnool have already taken up on experimental basis. Since the people are not available during day time at the residences, the government has decided to establish task force teams from December 13, 2014 at petrol bunks. The Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) staff, Home Guards and Petrol Bunk dealers representatives will undertake the process. With this, every vehicle that comes to petrol bunk should bring C-Book, driving license and Aadhaar card along with them.
