Orangutans are very smart and often very human-like. One orangutan named Tori became addicted to smoking when guests continually fed her cigarettes and ended up having to go to rehab to cure her addiction, quitting cold-turkey. Another orangutan named Fu Manchu created a wire key for his cage and escaped repeatedly, always hiding the key in his mouth before zookeepers could figure out it existed.

If you're ever lost and don't know which direction to go, pray that you stumble accross a field of cows grazing. After studying google maps images, scientists have determined that cows will align themselves with the north/south magnetic field before they start eating and relaxing.

People from the southern US might be familiar with this phenomenon if they've ever looked outside when there was a flood. Fire ants, instead of helplessly drowning in their underground tunnels, will actually come together and form a giant ant raft to float on! As if you needed another reason not to swim in flood waters, running into giant fire-ant rafts would definitely be a good thing to avoid.

Cuckoo birds are apparently extremely lazy parents. They will lay their eggs in other bird's nests when they aren't looking, and hope that the mother bird doesn't notice and raises the cuckoo as her own. A great espionage war is constantly going on, with cuckoos trying to fit in through camouflage, murdering their new siblings to get more food, and mothers evolving and learning how to spot a cuckoo and sometimes even abandoning a nest completely.

The lyrebird has an incredible gift. It is able to almost perfectly mimic ANY sound that it hears. In the past it may have only ever heard bird calls and other wild animals, but lately lyrebirds have been spotted mimicing the sound of chainsaws, car alarms, camera shutters, and more.

The hooded seal gets it's name from it's most distinctive and odd feature. In order to establish dominance, male hooded seals will inflate a giant red balloon on their noses, the bigger the better. They will try to scare off other males with it or woo the females.

Dogs are another animal that take advantage of Earth's magnetic fields. You are probably familiar with the ridiculous ritual dogs go through before finding that perfect spot to relieve themselves, but according to a recent study that whole process is to align themselves with the north/south magnetic field. Who knows why the magnetic field matters for a poop.

Certain grasshoppers have a very weird trait that comes from interacting other grasshoppers: Rubbing their hind legs frequently for a few hours will trigger their brains to transform, causing them to swarm and become locusts. This comes from when they would gather in the wild, too many in one place means it's time to transform and move as a group to another spot to feed.

Proboscis monkeys are another animal with a very funny looking appendage. The dominant males have large balloon-like noses that work to attract the lady proboscis monkeys.

Narwhals are creatures that seem like they belong in a fairytale alongside unicorns and dragons. They are a unique species of whale because of their giant horn, just like a unicorn, that can get as long as 9 feet. The horn seems to serve no purpose, but it's very real.

Starling birds often fly in large groups. These groubs are not just big, they're gigantic. When enough birds are all flying together, they will make amazing patterns and shapes and movements that are awe inspiring to see. These group patterns are called murmurations.

There is a creature with the ability to neutralize almost all poisons, even from creatures it has never encountered. One day this ability might be utilized by humans to help treat us and other species for poisoning. This invincible creature is the opossum!

Cats, as you might have suspected, have very odd and very high demands; one of which is that they don’t like to drink water if food is nearby. Perhaps they think it would spoil the water, or it could just be part of the fact that they don't like water that much in the first place. Moving your cat's water away from its food may help prevent kidney disease - a very common condition in older cats.

Dolphins are well known for being very smart and very good at learning things quickly with trainers. One species, the Bottlenose Dolphin, has longest memory among non-humans - they can recognize whistles of their mates after being separated for more than 20 years.

If you feel uneasy at the sight of blood, then this Horned Lizard's defense mechanism would work perfectly on you. The lizard literally shoots a stream of blood out of their eye when they feel threatened, mostly by dogs and wolves in particular.
