This 19-year-old boy is a class Xth pass, school dropout who lives with his mother and brother at Mangthang, 32 Mile in East Sikkim.Amazingly, he has made some devices that many people can’t imagine at his age. He has made hydro power generator which produces 2.3 volt energy that can lighten 3 bulbs and can charge up to 4 mobile phones at once. He also made a fan (DC -3 voltage) similar to other regular fans which we buy from hardware shops, but is truly affordable and way cheaper.He has made 2 excavator models by using syringe, drip pipe, plastic, tyre which has light, power steering and FM (93.5) radio in it. He has developed a vehicle battery charger. Local residents visits him to charge their batteries and for other day to day technical and mechanical requirements. He has also made sensor operated car which moves on the sound of claps. He also repairs TVs, mobile phones and some other electronic gadgets. Bikal has stopped going to school after passing class X at Middle Camp secondary school in 32 mile because of weak financial background. His father is ill and is living in Namchi with Bikal’s uncle.Bikal stays with his mother and a younger brother who goes to school. They earn around Rs. 2,000 a month by selling milk produced by the only cow they have. Bikal earns some extra money by repairing some electronic goods.He has left school and looks after his family. He wants to study PCM in home but has no money to buy books and afford his education. He says he can afford books after some money is saved in future. His one finger was slashed while making hydro power project. During his hospitalization, his teacher named Paden madam looked after him. He owes his gratitude to Paden mam. The house in which they live is not their own. Despite of all the hardships, Bikal Rai has a ultimate dream!He says :”I want to make Electric Car in Sikkim.”
