Senior police official accidentally shoots himself

Ghaziabad, Jan 15 (IANS) The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district sustained a bullet injury after he accidentally shot himself here Thursday while cleaning his service revolver, the police said.

Brij Raj Meena was taken to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his 9 mm service pistol at about 6.50 p.m. Thursday, the police said.

Inspector General of Police Gurvachan Lal said: 'It was an accident. He sustained an injury on his hand.'

Meena, an IPS officer of 1988 batch had taken over as the SSP Ghaziabad only on Jan 11. He replaced L. Ravi Kumar.
