JANASENA Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 For the first time since the hole was discovered earlier this year, Siberian researchers have successfully used climbing gear to reach a frozen lake that had formed some 10.5 metres down the crater. When frozen, the accessible parts of the crater are around 16.5 metres deep, but it was once suggested the hole was up to 200 metres deep in warmer weather.
