He has breathed his last tuesday evening (23 December 2014) at Chennai. He has written and directed around 80 films in various south Indian languages (mostly Tamil). His films Maro Charitra and Aakali Rajyam have become classics. He was honored with Government awards like PadmaSri and Dada Saheb Phalke award for his achievements. It was K Balachander who has discovered spark in great actors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikath and made them stars. He has produced Roja which introduced musical genius AR Rahman. He has won 7 National awards through his films as director and producer. He has won Nandi awards for his Telugu films Tholi Kodi Koosindi, Anthuleni Katha and Kokilamma. May his soul rest in peace!
