what 'merit' do you think a politician should have?

Again you are going to general discussion? Seems you are lost.

Ok, to answer your question, minimum they should be concerned about the basic needs of people. Its better if they have background of working for the best interest of people, doesn't matter from any caste.

Not like a reserved/privlged scumbag who has 0 knowledge of this.
My constituency faced this problem earlier.

We can give an anecdote if caste privilege is an exception but since it is a norm - it is very difficult to delineate. Common. I mean my very existence and the very mundane things I get to do is a privilege bestowed upon me because of my caste.

I mean why do some people in general and historians and researchers in particular tend to complicate things by putting in years of research work and collecting data/stats and write books going into hundreds of pages when we have this amazing capacity to give a simplistic touch of deductions based on our day to day life incidents.

I dig you bro. I mean completely.

I was taught the trick to type 6 1/2  letters per second on a keyboard by an eminent type writing school teacher because he thought he knew which caste I belonged to. His average for other underprivileged people was 4.

why so serious. how is asking for anecdotes undermining the 'amazing' research done on caste consensus in India (btw, its not) ?

i mean, the research on caste is not extensive, sometimes mediocre, and data still is hard to come by.

If you can point me to a source on the percentage of graduates from any particular caste that is availing reservation benefits, I'd be glad to change my opinion.

and this is on a subject that is extremely politically polarising.
