I agree its not just the upper castes that are at fault here. but some OBC castes who are in power and enjoy the political benefits of reservation. Has Indian govt even recorded how difficult it is conduct a caste census, and how people lie about their caste just to call themselves part of a majority caste? Upper castes have a problem of their own ... one caste dont like another... no one want another upper caste to take advantage .. most of lower castes are smart enough to take advantage over this fight and bypass the responsibility ! Good that Modi has found out this loophole and enlightened the upper castes to be united if they want to stay in power. Between two big gaints - upper and lower, minorities wont have the chance to get influenced and will have no option but to serve the society

Unofficial power lies in lower class hands they can really turn on the heat... like how the recently elected OBC PM, decided to tweak land acquisition policies to suit the industrialists/real estate sharks, against the lower class land owners? Try naming a few dalit entrepreneurs, and think of the power of networks, both political and economical that offer an advantage way beyond what reservations can ever do. anyway its simple. If a majority of them are dirt poor in a country, the rich have to think twice about their grand plans to make even more money. If they don't, its the govt's job to make sure they do, by taxing them like hell. How do you think US became a decent place? Check out the income tax rates in the 40s 50s, and even until the 80s. Before that, it was probably like India.

gargicau Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 I remember a young driver, a muslim from kurnool, who drove me around TN/AP for a few days last year. I made a derogatory comment on Haleem, knowing fully well that he was muslim (I pretended that I didn't know), but later apologised to him when my mother pointed out that he was muslim. I apologised to him when there was no one around because I wanted to have a conversation. He seemed cool with it, and told me that he gets such comments all the time from his friends. I don't know if being his employer's son gave me that freedom to criticize him.
