Christopher Nolan's Interstellar may have received some complaints about its sound when it opened, but apparently, the Motion Picture Academy's sound branch wasn't as concerned. The film was nominated for both sound editing and sound mixing Oscars, and composer Hans Zimmer was additionally nominated for its score.

Nolans' longtime sound team previously won Oscars for sound mixing and sound editing for Inception, and The Dark Knight won an Oscar in sound editing.

For Interstellar, Richard King is nominated for sound editing; and Gary A. Rizzo, Gregg Landaker and Mark Weingarten for sound mixing.

Earlier this week members of the film's sound team also received nominations from the Cinema Audio Society and Motion Picture Sound Editors.

The issue, to the extent that this is an earth-shattering controversy, reached fever pitch late this week when a New York Cinemark posted a note on its box office exclaiming that whatever audio issues consumers were having with Interstellar were the fault of the film mix itself and not with the theater’s respective sound equipment.
