4 hours before the Republic Day celebrations, TOI accessed some of the exclusive details of the unprecedented security apparatus which will be in place at Rajpath making even a bird's flight difficult, literally.

The Rajpath has been divided into 13 zones and each zone is to be manned by a special team which will be headed by a DCP rank officer.

2000 security personnels will be guarding just the main stage.

 

The most unique feature of the apparatus will be that all security passes will be made at the spot so as to avoid duplication.

"Each security personnel need to be identified by his team member for the pass," said a top officer.

Sources say that extra caution is being taken in making the passes as there are inputs that terrorist can try infiltrating using fake I'd cards.


Around 45,000 personnel will be deployed in New Delhi district comprising areas like Rajpath, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, south block and north block, Nirman Bhawan and Shashtri Bhawan etc apart from vital embassies in the Chanakyapuri area.
