1.            We are a virtual team and interact over chat, phone calls, etc.  We have to be able to understand the candidate and they must be able to understand us.  This has been a big issue for us so far.
2.            We often screen out candidates that have not had long term positions, we've found folks that bounce around projects for 3 to 6 months at a time tend to not fit into our development model which is end to end.
3.            Code samples we've received have been copy / pasted from the internet, we expect some real world experience and need to validate these.
4.            We have interviewed several people that left us questioning what these folks have actually accomplished vs. what they have been lightly involved in.
5.            Interviewees tend to not answer our questions, instead they tell us the book knowledge that is not really our question.  I'll provide one example to consider…”Tell me what data access frameworks you've been exposed to, which ones you like, which ones you don't like, and why?”  Generally the response is to tell us what data access frameworks exist, which ones should be used in certain situations, etc.  I'm looking for their personal experience (what they have used, what they think of each, and why).  Answering this question tells me breadth of experience, a deep understanding of this space, direct experience implementing, troubleshooting, and managing data access, etc.
