athletics Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 HYDERABAD: The central government will help the Telangana government tap World Bank funds for its prestigious water grid project. This assurance was given by Union minister for rural development, panchayat raj and drinking water Chaudhary Birender Singh to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and panchayat raj minister KT Rama Rao when they called on him in Delhi on Monday on the fourth and final day of their stay in the national capital. Water Grid, a massive programme, is intended to supply piped drinking water to each and every household in the state in the next four years. Rao vowed not to seek votes in the next election if he failed to complete the project. “Rao sought the support of the Centre in availing World Bank funds for the water grid programme. We will help the state. The RD ministry will provide funds to TS in the next Union budget for rural development programmes in TS,” Singh told reporters later. Birender Singh also assured to redefine poverty with respect to the newly-created state. The poverty parameters were fixed in the combined state of AP and TS is said to be losing a lot due to that. The TS government wanted the Centre to take a fresh look at the poverty parameters so that the state would more help from the Centre in public distribution system and other programmes. Chandrasekhar Rao wanted Birender Singh to include all the backward areas of the state in NREGS to provide wages/employment to all eligible workers. KCR LAUDS VENKAIAH: Chandrasekhar Rao met Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu later and sought cooperation of his ministry in the development of Hyderabad, smart cities, augmentation of drinking water supply, solid waste management, drainage system and other urban issues. Rao also wanted the Centre to sanction around Rs 900 crore for taking up Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the state. “Rao gave a PowerPoint presentation on development of Hyderabad. It was very nice. I will discuss it with the officials of my department and extend help to TS,” Naidu told reporters later. Rao heaped praise on Venkaiah Naidu. “Two Telugu-speaking states are fortunate enough to have Venkaiah Naidu as Urban development minister. AP and TS have a large number of municipal corporations and councils, and need Centre’s support. athletics Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Posted February 11, 2015 Telangana to acquire 1 lakh forest lands for water grid project Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to acquire one lakh acre of forest land for drinking water grid project for which due compensation will also be paid to the Fore Department. According to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, a new national law to utilise forest properties for development purposes is on the anvil. At a review meeting on this project held at Secretariat on Tuesday, Chandrashekar Rao said that 620 engineers would be recruited shortly by TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) especially to work for this challenging project. Henceforth, this scheme would be called as “Telangana Drinking Water project.” Also, a new body-“Telangana Drinking Water Supply Corporation” is being floated to oversee the launching and implementation of the scheme. He told officials to ensure that the project catered to the drinking water needs of the people at least for 30 years to come. Rao also asked them to choose international standard pipe manufacturers, preferably hailing from Telangana, for this scheme. The Chief Minister stated that Municipalities should take care of laying pipeline in cities and towns. When HMWSSB officials brought to the notice of the Chief Minister about objections raised by railway department in laying pipelines to Hyderabad (at three places where railway tracks are overlapping) as part of Godavari drinking water project, Rao spoke to Railway General Manager.
athletics Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Posted February 11, 2015 Officials asked to ensure that the project meets drinking water needs for at least 30 years The Government of Telangana would soon promulgate an ordinance for providing the right of way for laying pipelines of the drinking water project, water grid, to ensure speedy progress of works. This was stated by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a review meeting held here on Tuesday. He also named the water grid project as Telangana Drinking Water Project. At the meeting attended by Ministers K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao and officials of the Rural Water Supply, Irrigation, Municipal Administration and Forest Departments, the Chief Minister told them to design the project in such a manner that it could become a model to the entire country. The project should meet the drinking water needs of at least next 30 years, he said. He asked the RWS Department to take the responsibility of laying water supply pipes to households by sticking to standards in the quality of pipes. He told them to procure pipes only from the firms having manufacturing units in Telangana. The responsibility of laying pipelines, fixing joints and maintenance for 10 years should be handed over to the pipe companies, he said. 620 engineers to be recruited Asking the authorities to conduct hydraulic tests at every level of the project work, the Chief Minister directed them to complete intake wells at least till basement level by the end of May. He took the decision of recruiting 620 engineers in the PR&RWS Department through Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). When the officials brought the issue of cooperation from Railways to the Chief Minister’s notice in case of diverting Godavari water to the city, he called up General Manager of the South Central Railway over phone immediately. The SCR official responded positively on the work of pipeline crossing railway track at three places. At another review meeting conducted by Mr. Rama Rao in the RWS Engineer-in-Chief’s office the Minister directed the officials to allocate Rs.1 crore to each district for acquisition of land required for laying pipelines.
