High tension prevailed at Nagarjuna Sagar Dam between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

While Andhra Pradesh is insisting that they have right on right bank canal and also the power to release the water for irrigation for the coastal region, Telangana has been insisting that they have already used up their share and that it has the right to manage water resources.

The AP Government directed its irrigation deparment officials to release 6000 cusecs for Sagar Right Canal.
As the AP irrigation officials reached the dam gates following the government order to release the water, the Telangana police prevented them and closed the gates of the Nagarjunasagar Dam’s Right bank canal and locked the gate switch room.

Following that AP irrigation officials accompanied by AP Police force went and broke the lock to open the dam gates to release water to Costal Andhra, Telangana police came to stop them leading to a lathi fight between the police personnel of both the States.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu immediately spoke to his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao inviting him for talks to find an amicable solution for the controversy.
Both have agreed to meet at Raj Bhavan at 10 AM on Saturday before Governor ESL Narasimhan.

Meanwhile, the situation remained tense at Nagarjuna Sagar with officials of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States trying to take virtual control over the Dam.

People welfare above politics.

I telephoned my Telangana counterpart Mr. K Chandrasekhar Rao today and requested him for an amicable settlement to Nagarjunasagar Dam’s water issue that was leading to hostilities between the two sides. I also took lead to set up a meeting with him tomorrow convened by Hon’ble Governor Mr. Narsimhan Garu.

To calm the escalating tension at the site, I have placed a restraining order and strictly asked the police department to maintain order.

In times of such strife, it is our responsibility as leaders to rise above politics to do good for people. Looking forward to a good meeting with Mr. K Chandrasekhar Rao.
