University Oval is one the venues ideal for preserving wickets for a late-innings assault. The weather is set fair, although is again likely to be a few degrees below what the Sri Lankans would like.

The 78 runs conceded by Nuwan Kulasekara (from eight overs) were the third most of his ODI career and all three have come since May 2014. This World Cup was the first time since 1999 - when they lost to England - that Sri Lanka had not won their first game of the tournament, although that did includes wins against Bermuda (2007) and Canada (2011).

He looked good in the opener but could not capitalize but the stylish southpaw is never far away from the big ones. Lasith Malinga: He is probably Sri Lanka’s most potent weapon and he can cause mayhem in the afghan line up. His pin point accuracy and lethal yorkers are something his opposition might not have faced earlier and neither they would enjoy doing. Lahiru Thirimane: The classy opener got his team to a flier against co- host New Zealand and while he was at the pitch the Lankans looked in cruise control. Crisp through the offside and equally solid while in defense, Thirimane will be hoping he is amongst the scorer again. Shapoor Zadran: The tall fast bowler was on top against Bangladesh with some fine swing bowling using his height to generate the extra bounce which usually troubles the batsman in this part of the world. Though not gifted with raw pace , his passion and hard work means he lands the bowl in areas that more often than not yield results. Mohammad Nabi: The Afghanistan all- rounder is leader of his side and his team looks to him to play the anchor role in the middle overs. With the top order highly susceptible to failiure , Nabi could see himself in the spotlight again having to do all the hard stuff all by himself.
