mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 Pitch and conditions De Villiers said that the surface for South Africa's ODI against Australia at the MCG last November was one of the slowest he had played on. Virat Kohli said there would be some pace and bounce. Those opinions also tell you about the conditions the two players call home. There have been three ODIs here in the past four months. Australia chased down 270-odd twice, and racked up an insurmountable 342 in the third. There was a brief shower in Melbourne on the eve of the match, but weather is likely to clear tomorrow with a high in the mid-thirty degrees.
mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 Stats and trivia India have lost three out of three to South Africa in the World Cup, although they have won three out of three against the same opponents in the Champions Trophy, including two semi-finals The sides have met just once before in Australia, in the 1992 World Cup in Adelaide
mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 Quotes "South Africa are one of the top sides in the world. They have a good balance of batting and bowling, and their fielding has raised standards in international cricket. To get over that hurdle tomorrow will be an immense self-belief booster for us." Virat Kohli "I'm pretty happy that it's going to be packed. The last few games I played here it wasn't full, and it almost feels wrong in a way. You almost get lost in the middle out there, it's so big. " AB de Villiers on the MCG
mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 MS Dhoni: The Indian skipper has been not got the runs flowing from his bat for a really long time. Unarguably India’s best limited-over batsman in the current squad after Virat Kohli, Dhoni needs to start firing soon if India’s chances in the tournament have to become stronger. Quinton de Kock: The left-handed opener was having a golden run against the Indians in late 2013 when the team from sub-continent had toured the Proteas land. The wicket-keeper batsman struck three centuries in as many matches in the series to decimate India. At the MCG, he will resume his love with the Indian bowling and if he gets going, South Africa is set to post a massive total on the board. Morne Morkel: There are few bowlers around the world who can generate the kind disconcert bounce that Morne Morkel can. Alongside Dale Steyn, he makes the most dangerous new ball pair in the tournament. Even as Indian batsmen showed great character while dealing against the Pakistani bowlers, Morkel will surely test the Indian batsmen. He has enough variations too up his sleeves to cause havoc. Rohit Sharma: He hasn’t played too many limited-overs matches since India arrived Down under, but whenever he did, the Mumbai batsman looked good. He is well-equipped to deal with pace, bounce and swing. However, almost everytime, it is he who brings about his own downfall. If he gets going, he has been known to post big scores. Ravindra Jadeja: The all-rounder has been in the side for a long time without doing much of note. With the bat, he often gets just a few overs to prove his credentials and the pitches in Australia offer little help for his left-arm turners. However, he needs to step up and prove more useful for the side than what his currently contribution suggests
mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 Virat Kohli vs Dale Steyn This will be the contest of the best against the best; of two players who have almost made their place in the history of their respective countries with quite a few years of cricket still left in them. However, they have started their ICC World Cup 2015 campaign in contrasting styles. While Virat Kohli led India to win over arch-rivals Pakistan with a fine century, Dale Steyn got hammered by minnows Bangladesh. However, against each other too, they have contrasting records. South Africa is the only opposition against whom Kohli is yet to register an ODI ton, while Steyn averages less than 20 against India. Whoever manages to hit top form in the India-South Africa battle could well dictate the terms of the match.
mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 MS Dhoni vs AB de Villiers The captains of India and South Africa have a battle to fight beyond just the match. While India needs to change history after the and lead India to its first World Cup win over the Proteas, AB de Villiers has to inspire them following a shabby show against minnows Zimbabwe. For long the tag of chokers has stuck to them and he has been given the charge of riding them off it. On paper, South Africa are one of the favourites to win the title. However, much like so many times in the past, the true potential of the side does not show in their performance at the World Cup.
mtkr Posted February 21, 2015 Author Report Posted February 21, 2015 Ravichandran Ashwin vs Hashim Amla Hashim Amla is the Mr Consistent for South Africa, going about his business flawlessly. He is most likely to get an upperhand against a rather mediocre new-ball attack. Ravichandran Ashwin could well hold the key in stopping South Africa’s strong batting line against the Indian pacers. He will have to strangle them in the middle overs and get the vital breakthroughs.
