Pitch and conditions

This hasn't been a good World Cup for chasing teams, and that is unlikely to change at the Manuka Oval, going by its recent history.

Teams batting first have won three out of four matches played this century, with Sri Lanka pulling off the only successful chase in a rain-curtailed match against India in 2008.

Big scores have been common, with teams posting 300-plus totals in two of those games and Bangladesh scoring 267 against Afghanistan last week.

The major factor in the bowlers' favour, especially the spinners, is the outfield, which is of comparable dimensions to the MCG.

Andre Russell has been not out in three of his last four ODI innings, during which time he has made 157 runs in 78 balls, at a strike rate of 201.28.

West Indies and Zimbabwe have played each other five times in World Cups and Zimbabwe have lost all five matches.

"It's very good to see that [Chris Gayle] still hasn't fired and we're still getting 300 runs. I guess when his contribution comes, we'll get somewhere close to 400, hopefully."
West Indies captain Jason Holder is happy with the team's middle-order form

"It's the biggest ground I've been on so far. I've been in New Zealand the whole time, so yeah, it's a bit of a change for us."
Hamilton Masakadza, on the size of the Manuka Oval outfield.

"I could feel it out there. I tried not to show it. Try to breathe, relax, try to hit the ball down the ground, that's the way we've been training, and it ended up paying off." Sean Williams after his match-winning knock against the UAE.

"I can bat if there's 20 overs still left to go, but I think I really enjoy when there's five overs or 10 overs left. I can come out and just play my natural game. It's not like I have to be cagey." Andre Russell talked about his approach to batting

Players to watch out

Lendl Simmons
With scores of 102 and 50 so far, Lendl Simmons is in fine form. He has gotten the team out of a tough situation in both the matches and his batting has been a mixture of maturity, caution and aggression. With Darren Bravo out injured, Simmons could move to the top of the order and give stability.
One of the leading run-scorers in 2015 Cricket World Cup, Lendl Simmons has delivered time and again for the side. Be it pacing the innings during critical stage of match or going all out taking the aggression back, Simmons has excelled in his new-found role of being the batting mainstay.

Sean Williams has been a good utility player for Zimbabwe. In both the matches, his left-arm orthodox has been the most economical while with the bat, his unbeaten 76 was pivotal in the chase of 285 against the UAE in Nelson. Williams had a good outing against the West Indies in the 2007 World Cup when he scored 70 and he will be expected to deliver the goods yet again.

 Brendan Taylor
Zimbabwe’s hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman has been main weapon in the side’s artillery. Taylor was instrumental in Zimbabwe’s last win against United Arab Emirates when he made 47 . His gutsy 40 against South Africa showed his calibre of facing world class bowlers of this game.

Hamilton Masakadza
Masakadza smashing a six off, cricket’s one of the best bowlers Dale Steyn to bring his fifty, when Zimbabwe pushed South Africa to their limits in the opening match. Given his temperament and no fear against the big names, Masakadza makes for an interesting player to watch out against West Indies fiery pace attack.

Andre Russell
Russell was adjudged Man of the Match against Pakistan for his all-round performance (42 off 13 deliveries and 3/33). He leathered the bowler in the end of West Indies innings, to set up a mammoth target for the opposition.

Jerome Taylor
The spearhead of West Indies bowling attack, Jerome tore apart the Pakistan’s top order in first three overs of the match in Christchurch’s Hagley Oval. Reducing the opposition to 1-4 is no easy feat but Taylor made it look like walk in park. His lethal pace proves to be too hard to handle, something the Zimbabwean side should be wary of.

Mini Battles:

Chris Gayle vs Tinashe Panyangara
Opener Chris Gayle’s form no doubt is cause of worry in West Indies camp. The left-handed batsman has thus far managed to score 36 and four in his two outings this World Cup. But Zimbabwe will be in mood to take him lightly. And no one ever takes Gayle lightly. You never know when Gayle will be back in form and smash bowlers around. Zimbabwe’s strike bowler Tinashe Panyangara has been providing his team with breakthroughs early on and he will be their best bet against the Jamaican.

Jerome Taylor vs Sikandar Raza
West Indies fast bowler will be high on confidence after his match-winning act against Pakistan. He will be licking his lips to go on canter against Zimbabwe top order. Zimbabwe opener Sikandar Raza Butt has got starts but failed to convert them, with Taylor slashing terror with his ball Sikandar will have to make sure Zimbabwe get off to a solid start.

Jason Holder vs Elton Chigumbura
Both captains come as all-rounders in their respective teams and have similar set of roles to play. Both Holder and Chigumbura come as first change in bowling and play important role with bat down the order. This one is going to be a face-off of captains.
