You brain started thinking now. There is a huge background to the entire episode.
India is a country which has at least 10,000 Years of traceable history and its the only country which remained still a Hindu majority country. All other parts of the world right from Central Persia (from Iran) to Far East like Malaysia including all the countries were succumbed to the barbaric cult of Islam. Indian Kings though lost several wars put a huge resistance and stopped it from converting to Islamic Nation.
Unfortunately INDIA IS RECOGNIZED BY THE DIRTY ISLAMIC MONUMENT CALLED TAJ MAHAL. There were attempts by Gandhi family to put Taj Mahal on Indian Currency but were met with resistance.
The earlier BJP Govts could not touch this sensible issue. With the present BJP headed by RSS Patron, attempt is being made to make the old line smaller by writing a bigger line beside it.
So Modi (or any other PM) could never think of destroying Taj Mahal and rebuilding  Shivalaya on it.
So Modi invented a plan to devise a monument that would put Taj Mahal under shadow. For that who could be a better person other than Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel ?
Surely we should be thankful for not using Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru or even Indira Gandhi for this monument.

For starters, please learn the life history of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel instead of fighting for leaders like Gandhis, NTRs, YSRs, Jays, Karunas etc. Here are some reasons:
1. Sri Vallabh Bhai Patel earned the title of 'Sardar' even before he entered the Indian Fight For Independence for fighting bravely for the cause of poor farmers unlike current day politicians who wanted statues and who wanted people to touch their feet (especially NTR).
2. Sri Vallabh Bhai Patel never ever wanted to be the PM of India even though he was elected by INC working committee soon after Independence.
3. Sri Vallabh Bhai Patel is the only ruler known in the recent History who used State funds (Govt funds) to construct a Hindu Temple (Somnath Temple) that was destroyed by barbaric muslim rulers 17 times. After that not evena single temple is built with Govt funds but funds were allocated for Madrassas and Maszids.
4. Sri Vallabh Bhai Patel's successors still depend on Sarkari naukris and live like ordinary Indian citizens unlike the successors of todays politicians who live in filthy richness that would suffice for least 100 generations.
5. Finally at least after 800 years of the continuous defeats by Muslim rulers, Sardar the Great is the only leader in known Indian history who could pull down the barbaric Nizam, Nawab etc and etc and integrate them into the Indian Sovereignty.
