The Mercedes-Benz is somewhat more streamlined and aggressive in appearance, unlike its performance. On the outside, the Audi A4 bears the Audi Singleframe® grille, sunroof, front and rear fog lights, alloy wheels, a dual exhaust outlet and chrome window trim. The Mercedes-Benz C250 features quad exhaust outlets, a sunroof, the classic Mercedes-Benz grille, chrome trim and 5-spoke alloy wheels. The Audi A4 comes in two trim levels, Premium and Premium Plus, but adding the Prestige package creates significant upgrades. Driver and passengers will find ample leg room and headroom on the inside of the Audi A4, with standard leather trim and seating surfaces. The Mercedes-Benz C250 is offered as a Sport Sedan or a Luxury Sedan.

However, the Audi A4 has standard leather seating and heated windshield washer nozzles. The Audi's automatic climate control covers three zones, while the Mercedes-Benz C250 offers a dual-zone system. The Audi's sound system is another standout. Standard Audi Concern radio with ten speakers, speed-sensing volume control, a subwoofer, voice control and satellite radio edges out the Mercedes-Benz C250. The A4 Prestige adds the Bang and Olufsen® Sound System with 14 speakers, Audi side assist and Audi MMI Navigation with voice controls as standard. Satellite radio and an upgraded sound system are optional in the Mercedes-Benz C250. Both models have Bluetooth® technology, CD, MP3 playback capability, iPod® connectivity and a USB port. The Audi A4 also boasts standard keyless start, stop and entry, which is optional on the Mercedes-Benz C250. Safety features in both models are nearly identical, from the position and number of airbags to the safety features built into the frame. However, only the Audi has a front airbag deactivation via child seat detection system. The Audi A4 garnered a 5-star front, side, rollover and overall safety rating from the NHTSA, while the Mercedes-Benz C250 came in second with a 4-star front and rollover safety rating. The Mercedes-Benz C250 Sport Sedan and the Audi A4 beginning at the base level have the option of parking assistance and intelligent cruise control, but the C250 Luxury Sedan does not.

The Mercedes-Benz C250 has standard rear-wheel drive and very limited availability with all-wheel drive. The Audi A4 has a turbocharged 2.0L DOHC TFSI® engine with direct injection, which delivers 220 HP at 4450 rpms and 258 ft-lbs of torque. The Mercedes-Benz C250 has a 1.8L turbocharged engine which generates 201 HP at 5500 rpms and the same torque as the Audi, though at higher rpms. Drivers of the Audi A4 can get a 6-speed Multironic® continuously variable transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission, while the Mercedes-Benz C250 only offers the 7-speed shiftable automatic transmission. Both models offer nearly equal fuel efficiency of 31-32 mpg on the highway, but the base Audi A4 does slightly better in the city with 24 mpg rather than the C250's 22 mpg.

The C250 is also very well-equipped with features that include: 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights with LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control and a 5.8-inch central display.What the A4 Gets Right The A4 has a sportier ride than the C250, giving the driver more confidence on the road, and offers up more luxury for the dollar with features like: 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights and wipers, automatic climate control, a 10-speaker audio system and leather upholstery. Under the hood, the A4 takes the lead again with a 2-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque -- an advantage of 10 horsepower and 29 pound-feet on the C250. The A4 also features a standard continuously variable transmission on front-wheel drive models and a standard six-speed manual on its Quattro variants. In either form, it's quicker than the C250.Is the C250 Worth Buying? Absolutely, it is. The C250 offers up several things that the A4 simply cannot match. First up is prestige -- Audi gets respect, certainly, but Mercedes-Benz remains Germany's premier automaker. It also offer a stylish coupe model, and a more refined ride than the A4.Verdict: Audi A4 Though Mercedes-Benz is a more recognizable name in the luxury car world, the A4 simply thrashes the C250 in nearly every test. It is faster, more luxurious, handles better and is less expensive. The C250 certainly has its place, but the A4 simply offers more bang for the buck.
