That's their job to defend. Until proven everyone is innocent. If a person can't afford to hire a lawyer or can't defend by himself in the court of law or if no one comes forward to defend the crimnal, the court assigns one. Its right of human to have a defense lawyer who represents him/her. Mostly.. case lo anni defend cheyyataniki against ga unte, defense lawyers try their best to minimize the sentence to the convict. Some criminals defense lawyer voddhu ani vaalla case vaalle vaadhinchukuntaaru. becuase defense lawyers gattiga vaadhincharu emo ani in cases where there are clear evidence of culpability.

Kapdataniki ante...prove ayye dhaka ..no one can say that he is criminal. That's the whole point of that process..to prove culpability or the innocence. One lawyer tries to prove the culpability other tries to defend. Its the judge based on the evidence from both the sides decides kadha.
