Since Polavaram would take another four years to complete, CBN is keen to ensure water supply to the drought-prone Rayalaseema districts and Krishna Delta in the meantime. He has passed strict orders to ensure completion of the Rs. 1,300-crore Pattiseema project in a year. Speaking on the occasion, CBN said, “If need be, I will sleep at the sites, wherever construction of irrigation projects are in progress such as Polavaram, Pattiseema, Tatipudi and Chintalapudi to ensure timely completion of these projects.”

To speed up the diversion of 80 TMC feet water, it has been proposed to erect 13 pumps to discharge 8,500 cusecs of water. Pipelines are to be laid for 54 kms up to the Polavaram right canal from where the water will move to the Krishna River due to gravity.

The farmers from the Krishna delta are excited because of the elimination of uncertainty of water release from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar. What’s more, industrialisation in the West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts will also receive a major boost after the project takes shape.
