Men Want Protection From Harassing Wives

A couple of years back, the state government of Gujarat has started a helpline named '181 Abhayam' for women in distress. The executives and officials of the Abhayam team were trained enough to address the domestic violence or harassment issues faced by the state women. But, the analysis of the call-stats has revealed many shocking facts...

As per the latest report, more than 25% of the incoming calls/complaints are from the harried/harassed men and it looks like an upward trend from few quarters. Most of the male callers want the helpline team to negotiate with their ever-aggressive duo of wife and mother. Apart from this, men complained about the threats of domestic violence from their life partners.

"Our call analysis showed that majority of men complained of a demanding wife who failed to understand their financial capacity. Then there are callers who want us to intervene in tiffs between their wives and mothers. We have trained our executives to handle women's problems. We were not ready for taking calls from men but as numbers started increasing we understood that the trend is here to stay," said Gohil, the head of Abhayam project.

Whether the statistical report of Gujarat's Abhayam team can be generalized or not will remain as a big question now. But, the cases filed against harassing women are also on the rise from last few years and it looks like the distress has found its new residence - the men
