"I've worked as a nurse all my life. For the last few years, I had been working as a 'house nurse' to an 80 year old man. Over the years, we ended up becoming great friends. We used to talk to one another about our lives, experiences and everything else. He was also aware that I had a knee problem, so if he saw that I was resting in the afternoon and he needed something - he wouldn't wake me up...he would get it himself, even though he was in discomfort.
One day, on my way back from work I felt an unbearable pain in my knees and I had to be admitted to Hinduja hospital - I was on bed rest for a week after. Once I was discharged, I got home and called his house to find out how he was keeping and his daughter told me he had passed away. She told me that he repeatedly asked about me when I didn't go to work and kept saying that he was worried about my health...his body couldn't handle the anxiety and he succumbed to a heart attack. I decided to retire after because I didn't just lose a patient, I lost a friend and as much as I have nursed him...he's taken care of me too."
