H1B Visa 2015 quota was over in the first week and a whopping 172,500 H1B petitions were received in first week by USCIS.  H1B Lottery / random selection was held by USCIS to select 85,000 H1B petitions to fulfil the work permit cap.

USCIS expects to receive more petitions than the H-1B cap during the first five business days of this year’s program. The agency will monitor the number of petitions received and notify the public when the H-1B cap has been met. If USCIS receives an excess of petitions during the first five business days, the agency will use a lottery system to randomly select the number of petitions required to meet the cap. USCIS will reject all unselected petitions that are subject to the cap as well as any petitions received after the cap has closed. USCIS used the lottery for the FY 2015 program last April.

04/04/2015: FY-2016 H-1B Cap Rush and Deadline

• Reports indicate that the volume of the cap filings may turn out to be much larger than that of last year when the USCIS had received 175,000 petitions in the first week of April 2014. The total annual cap is 85,000. It is thus almost certain that this year again, the cap may reach on the 7th of April, and any later filings may be rejected and returned. For the last minute filers, today and Monday are the last days to ship out overnight delivery services. When shpping out on Monday, please keep in mind that there is a huge time zone difference between the West Coast and the East Coast. Good luck.
