In an exclusive interview from ground zero, Minister of State for External Affairs General (retired) VK Singh spoke about the challenging state of affairs during the rescue operation Rahat in Yemen.

"From spread of Indians in Yemen to dealing with various countries, the challenges have been immense. We had to function through three different Air Traffic Controls," the minister said when asked about the problems faced by rescue teams.

He added that since there is no embassy in Djibouti, they had to be dependent on a lot of other things.

When asked about his decision to stay back in Sana'a, the minister said his aim was to get understand the ground reality so as to get things moving.

Singh complained that some people do not take advisories seriously and then after three-four months when the situation worsens, they evacuate, which according to him puts pressure on the government.

He added that there are a lot of people who wait till the last minute in most cases to avail a free trip back home. "Moment evacuees are in safe zone, they start complaining about small things like not getting a spoon," he said.

"Getting Indians out of conflict zones is marred by two problems. One being that some people decide only at the last minute and some hope things would improve which was the case in Yemen also,"Singh, who is camping in Djibouti to oversee evacuation of Indians from Yemen, said.
