manjunath455 Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 CHANDIGARH: Yoga teacher Ramdev will enjoy the status of cabinet minister in Haryana, the state government today announced. "Baba Ram Dev Brand Ambassador for promotion of Yoga and Ayurveda in Haryana will be given status equivalent to Cabinet Minister," tweeted state Health Minister Anil Vij today. Ramdev, who supported the BJP's national election campaign last year, was named the brand ambassador of Haryana soon after the party took charge in the state. The Haryana government has said that the 49-year-old yoga guru will supervise the development of a herbal forest spread over thousands of acres of land, which will include 25,000 species of ayurvedic herbs. The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have given prime importance to yoga. Last week, PM Modi launched a portal for International Day of Yoga while visiting the UNESCO headquarters in France. After PM Modi urged the world to recognize yoga as a global festival, the UN last year declared June 21 as World Yoga Day. Haryana has announced plans to make Yoga a compulsory subject in schools.
