if you are planning to stay back in US & if you think you will stays with this employer for longer time then you should go for it. It will save you some  tax & also get extra 5% from employer, you can contribute upto 14% or 15k annual (not sure).

Yup.. 5% Pettu.. Mee Odu 4% Match Chestaadu.. N also Tax Free Money.. Even if u r not Willing for Long Term.. Still Better deal e..penalty + Tax Kattina kuda u will end up wid Profit..

When it comes to 401k atleast contibute to get all the employer match. Thats free money to you (means even if you don't contribute at all and take home that money, after tax it would not be much) Eg: in my case if I contribute 6%, my take home is almost same as when I don't contribute at all (and you miss the employer match as well). You can calculate your take home with different 401k contributions amount and conclude how much more is wise.

 

Note: How long you plan to stay in US doesn't matter, you only pay 10% penalty when you withdraw which will be less than the gains you will have over years of your stay.
