I went for drop box in March.

 

process 

 

after filling filling your ds-160 and while taking appointment if you are drop box eligible it will give a drop box confirmation letter. Take the drop box confirmation letter along with other documents and go to consulate after two days no appointment needed. Just say drop box they will let you in. Take 2 US passport size pics along with DS-160 form, drop box confirmation letter, passport, passport xerox all pages, I-797 original and xerox. They will only take xerox copies along with the passport. Since you have already given the finger prints last time so no need as per drop box eligibility. I got a confirmation to pick up the passport in 2 business days.
