lazybugger Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 Best example for net neutrality is electricity coz internet is similar to electricity i.e a utility. It means equal access and speed to all internet for no of data used. Just like you pay ur electricity bill for no of units used. Imagine a scenario where u need to pay extra/separate pack on top regular bill to watch TV but free units for refrigerator etc. Without net neutrality isps can charge extra for apps which or give some apps for free based on their relationship/deals. What about higher rates for commercial users of electricity? and lower rates for high tension customers? net neutrality is not as simple as you make it to be. Also in the age of hyper data, when there's no data neutrality (each app owns its data), then its unfair to expect ISPs to support net neutrality. It does affect their bottomline. especially with heavy users like netflix.
lazybugger Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 In fact, all this talk of net neutrality is govt interference in the marketplace. It's unnecessary.
lazybugger Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 better thing to do is to force the bigger ISPs to lease their last mile connections to smaller ISPs, so the customer has choice of broadband. having net neutrality is kinda pointless, if you are stuck with just one ISP in your area. The service will still be shyte.

It aims to provide free access[24] to 38 websites through an app. Only Bing was made available as the search engine.[25] Sunil Mittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel, criticised the concept and said, "If you are going to make the data free, then let's do completely philanthropic projects. Government must make spectrum free, there should be free network, but it is not happening."[26] On 27 March 2015, TRAI released a consultation paper on over-the-top services (OTT) and net neutrality for public feedback.[27][28] In April 2015, Airtel announced the "Airtel Zero" scheme. Under the scheme, app firms sign a contract and Airtel provides the apps for free to its customers.[29] The reports of Flipkart, an e-commerce firm, joining the "Airtel Zero" scheme drew negative response. People began to give the one-star rating to its app on Google Play.[30][31] Following the protests Flipkart decided to pull out of Airtel Zero. The e-commerce firm confirmed the news in an official statement on 14 April, saying, "We will be walking away from the ongoing discussions with Airtel for their platform Airtel Zero".[32]
