The Buckingham Canal constructed by the Britishers many years back is an important waterway, and a major channel for trade and industry particularly for edible commodities such as rice, salt and others. The canal has a long and hoary history. The canal is essentially a salt water navigation channel, running parallel to the Eastern coast of South India from Krishna District in Andhra to the Villupruam District of Tamil Nadu. But this canal is on the verge of destruction. The central government has geared up for the restoration works and hopefully it will reclaim its original status.
