After Maharashtra government has put a ban on beef, veteran actor Kamal Haasan said being a vegetarian should be a matter of personal choice. In an exclusive interview to Entertainment Editor Rajeev Masand, Haasan said, "According to scriptures, Brahmins used to be beef eaters. I don't eat beef anymore, it's a personal choice. Being vegetarian should be a choice."

Yes that is true, brhamins stopped eating meat for the very reason we hindus stopped eating beef..I.e to differentiate from the rest and prove superiority after the spread of Muslims in India. As per ancient references Brahins though on special occasions like karma/taddinamu use to be served beef. Even to date kashmiri brhamins eat meat and also serve goat meat as naivedyamu to lord Shiva during winters. Konkani brahmins consume fish and so do some brahamins of Bihar and Bengal
