Taking selfies is a rather new phenomenon that somehow spread throughout our society like a plague. Selfies have become so popular that products have been specifically designed to make taking them even easier (selfie sticks, anyone?). Selfies are mostly taken for superficial reasons, but what if I told you that taking a selfie could save your life?

Jackie Nicholas, a 35-year-old from Derby, England, would tell you that it definitely can. After Nicholas took a "No Makeup Selfie" to raise awareness for breast cancer, she was sent instructions on how to do a self-check for breast cancer. She never expected to find anything.

Unfortunately for Jackie, she found a lump the size of a pea while screening herself. When she went to the doctor, she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
Jackie is currently in remission after battling cancer for months. Doctors believe that she will be cancer-free for at least the next five years.

Never underestimate the power of a selfie. You could be like Jackie and receive vital information that saves your life. Always remember that it's important to check yourself for breast cancer, and it's equally important to visit a doctor if you feel like something is not right with your body. Visit here to learn more about checking yourself for early signs of breast cancer.
