Yesterday, I went to Sangam Vihar and was looking for a ride to go back to my place. Fortunately, I got an auto. After travelling to some distance, we started talking and in b/w the conversation, I noticed that his one leg was missing and curiously, I asked the reason behind it. With a tearful eyes the auto driver told me that in the year 2013 a BMW car hit him and he had to undergo amputation of his one leg. He has still not got the compensation and the case is still pending, but he is still hopeful that the verdict will come soon in his favour. After he finished his story, I didn't realise that there were tears in my eyes and for few minutes, I went numb.

His name was Mohammad Abbas and is living in Sangam Vihar itself. When he was left with no money because of his treatment, he chose to drive the auto to survive his family and now he is successfully running it.

Those words from him which changed my thinking towards disabilities were, “It is better to run an auto with one leg than beg on the streets”. And I salute him for his courage and determination.
