Sharma is currently the chairman and editor-in chief of India TV, as well as host of Aaj Ki Baat news bulletin.[1] He is said to be "close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley".[2]

Personal life
Sharma is originally from Delhi and his family lived in poverty.[2][3] He married TV producer Ritu Dhawan.[4]

Awards
In 2009, he was acclaimed INBA entrepreneur of the year 2009 at the National Convention organized by Exchange4media.[5] He was conferred with Tarun Kranti Award at Rohini, New Delhi on August 23, 2014 along with Poorva Joshipura, the CEO of PETA[6] Mr. Rajat Sharma has been conferred by Padma Bhusan by Gov. of India in 2015 in the field of Literature and Education. On 30 March 2015, he received a Padma Bhushan from Indian president Pranab Mukherjee.[7]
