istaru with US license..go to nearest license office or some drivbing school brokers will do paperwork for 2k or so

If you have a US Drivers License .. GO to the nearest AAA centre and show them US Drivers License and ask them for a International Driving permit Costs about $15... or so... They will give it in less than 10 min and you're allowed to drive in 150 countries including INDIA... make sure to carry US License while driving in INDIA>...

 

Last but not least.. Driving in INDIA is crazy so be very careful while you drive.... Goood Luck

How to Apply?

AAA is one of only two private entities in the U.S. authorized by the U.S. Department of State to issue an IDP.* 
You will need to provide:

• Download and fill out an application, and bring it to your nearest AAA branch.
• Two original passport pictures (also available at AAA branches).
• A valid U.S. driver's license.
• Pay $15USD permit fee and you're ready to go!

If you are not able to visit your nearest AAA branch your IDP can be obtained through the mail. Simply enclose the following and mail them to the AAA office nearest you (check locally for payment options):

• Your completed IDP application form
• Two original passport pictures each signed on the back
• $15USD permit fee
• A photocopy of both sides of your driver's license
