VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra Pradesh government's technicolour dreams of seeing a multi-billion dollar Entertainment City spring up in Vizag, courtesy Eros Investments Ltd, could well be shattered if the Naidu government is not able to find the requisite quantum of land for the project soon. In fact, if the government is not able to identify 1,500 acres for the project in eight months, it may lose the prestigious project to another state.

Though four months have elapsed since the government inked an MoU with the UK-based Eros Investments Limited in November last year, it is struggling to identify 1,500 acres for the project, said sources. Following the MoU, sources said that Eros had sought a location close to the sea, suitably in Visakhapatnam due to availability of an international airport.

The Entertainment City was slated to comprise a media city, an amusement park, commercial and residential spaces, hotels as well as leisure and healthcare facilities. The media city was to house pre-production, production and post-production facilities for the film, TV and advertising industries.

"The state government will first have to identify land for the project, following which it will float global tenders calling upon investors to set up the Entertainment City . The MoU with Eros was to ensure that they don't move to any other state. But the timeframe of the MoU is one year and if the government doesn't identify the land by that time, Eros can look at other possible locations in the country ," said a senior AP tourism department official.

"Once the land is identified and tenders are called, the participants, including Eros, will submit a detailed project report to the government indicating the various facilities that will be available at the Entertainment City ," the official added.

"We have some land available at Donakonda in Prakasam district and in Kurnool district, which will be sufficient for the project, but they are keen on Vizag," said another tourism department official. "The revenue department has been asked to collect details from the district administrations of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam if there is unused land of around 2,000 acres available for the project. We are yet to receive information about it," the official added.
