why do you care about what politicians announce? How different is this 'encouraging startups' from giving preferential access loans to small businesses?

Do you think politicians and bureaucrats can understand the need of high growth startups?

I haven't heard of any companies from state govt funded incubators making it to the big league.

I can say that Hyd isn't trying, because there has been no big names from Hyderabad yet. even after the couple of decades of large growth in software companies in that area.

may be you should wait for Hyderabad to reach an inflection point, before comparing it to better cities in India.

Why I do care about politicians? You just answered in your second sentence and people need funding what's wrong if government funds it and encourages budding entrepreneurs. Startup culture in India is still in nascant stage and it is too early to talk about success or failures. How many startups from india you know have been acquired for billion dollars? How many startups solved the generic industry issues and acquired for more than 100 million? May be if any very far and few. Please don't quote me flipkart or snapdeal. When we do startups like WhatsApp, Facebook, twitter etc then we are talking and India as that kind of start up destination is far ways off.

by your standards, no country other than USA can claim any kind of startup success.

the only thing wrong about politicians poking their nose into startup funding is that they don't understand it. and they will impede the entrepreneur's options in more ways than one. pretty sure, there won't be any high quality startups from these incubators, unless they are directly under the control of some university.

Trivandrum tried this, way before even Modi thought of it. Chile has tried it to, with an outrageous entrepreneur visa. both have failed.

startups are acquired for a variety of reasons. I'm not talking about acquires, but about building a sustainable high growth high tech business. Can you name one such in Hyderabad?

I already talked about inMobi in bangalore. and Zoho in Chennai (which pioneered cloud apps way back in 2004). compared to them, Hyd does seem dull. Its not yet top tier.

As i know Governments are not directly going to the startups but investing in the venture companies who have the knowledge and experience. Even companies like Google and mixrosoft does that, they have venture funds/companies and work independently. For example Yahoo venture funded google when it was a startup and yahoo Japan funded alibaba etc..

chennai startup hub emi kaadu ani specific ga cheppina babu. But its still has better environment than Hyderabad for startups. Not just one company. inka freshdesk undi. ivanni competing on equal terms with market leaders in their segments. inka plenty of budding startups working on high tech in IIT chennai incubator.

Hyderabad ollu, bangalore ki vellentha varaku, hyd is not a top tier tech city. inka employment opportunities kosam google, microsoft ani cheppukovatam varake ani gurthu chesa.
