India is peninsula (land locked in 3 sides), over the centuries we were economically well doing region only because we had road transportation through hind-kush..we used to have trains directly to Turkey..direct access to EU via Tajikistan and Russia via Punjab and Afganistan. 70% of that gone with the creation of Pak. And the remaining thing was gone with Pak occupying the parts of J&K ..thus completely locking the India. The only transportation for us is via sea which is not the best and economically viable solution for sustainable growth. Those so called leaders like Gandhi, Nehru never thought about those.

 

The biggest trade in the world happens between the US and Canada and it was through land (rail network and trucks). It was possible only because of roads.
