The parent of the Discovery Channel (DISCA) didn't have to do much to its head office in suburban Washington to achieve platinum status in early 2008. For instance, it already had efficient lighting and collected rainwater for its landscaped grounds, thereby meeting LEED requirements. New practices were needed, though, to become carbon neutral. These included purchasing wind power renewable energy certificates.
