lazybugger Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 Is there any sense to the debate about Maharana Pratap, Akbar, etc? Both are dcikwads. As are all rulers in those medeival times. The point of History is to study the times people lived in, their contribution to human knowledge, creativity, food, culture, political structure, etc. Not to glorify historical figures as great, awesome, super cool etc. History is only a data point that may help us to understand human civilizations, their rise and fall. CEOs and Emperors are overrated.

lazybugger Posted May 20, 2015 Author Report Posted May 20, 2015 A culture can still flourish/survive even after their king loses a war, if it can assimilate the conquering culture. In the bigger scheme of things, Akbar, Babar, Ashoka, are all irrelevant.
lazybugger Posted May 20, 2015 Author Report Posted May 20, 2015 Akbar is a villain because he tortured hindus, forced them to islam --Subramanyan swamy Medieval Indian history is viewed purely through Hindu-Muslim prism. But that is only one aspect of it. Both Hindutva vaadis and liberals are equally to blame.
