Uttama Villain - Where Kamal Becomes Trivikram

Someone should call up Kamal and let him know that cinema is a director's medium, not an actor's. He seems to love his acting so much that he made the entire movie about how great an actor he is. How many times are the audience supposed to hear about how great an actor this Manoranjan fellow is? 

 

So we know he's going to die within the first 20mins, and what happens after that? Manoranjan ambles around with a deadpan face to look for reassurance about his immortality from all and sundry. The main storyline was boring, so melodramatic, that I didn't care much for Manoranjan's death.

 

But the story within the story was slightly interesting. But credit to that should go to Crazy Mohan and SV Shekhar, who have influenced Kamal since the 90s.

 

The actors were all horrible, except Kamala Haasan. special mention to the girl who played the doctor. She was clueless. The other heroine was way over the top.

He makes some jibes at himself in this movie. But nothing too serious. its not like he's introspecting into his controversial life in cinema.

 

As a result the movie suffers. It is neither a serious movie, nor is fun to watch it.

Kamal proved that he isn't good enough to handle such complicated themes. Just like Maniratnam did, when he made Kadal.

 

pretty sure younger tamil filmmakers would have nailed this movie.

 

Time Kamal learns to take instructions from the director.

looked and felt like a 90s malayalam movie, minus the greenery in kerala.
