6-Year-Old Girl's Kidneys 'missing' After Operation At Delhi's Aiims

NEW DELHI: The father of a six-year-old girl has approached Hauz Khas police alleging that a doctor at AIIMS has removed both the kidneys of his daughter during surgery. 

All India Institute Of Medical Sciences has now constituted a high-powered committee of senior professors to probe into the allegations. 

"The allegations made by the patient's father are of serious nature. A high-powered committee of senior professors has been constituted to probe the matter and clear the issues. 

"The committee already held a meeting on May 20 and will be again meeting this week and then submit a report to AIIMS administration," said a senior doctor at AIIMS. 

A native of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Pavan Kumar had come to AIIMS last year seeking treatment of his daughter who had developed complications in her left kidney. 

According to the first test report of AIIMS dated December 8 last year, the right kidney was in good condition. 

The report stated: "There is a large photopenia noted left renal fossa which does not show any tracer accumulation in early as well as delayed static images while the right kidney appears normal in size, shape and function." 

A senior surgeon of the paediatrics department handling the case told the family that the kidney has to be removed. On March 14, the doctor performed the surgery during which one of the patient's kidney's was removed, alleged Kumar. 

However, after a couple of days, the patient complained of severe pain. A CT scan was done and in the test report no kidney was visible, alleged the father. 

"I then asked the doctor who, however, did not answer my queries properly. I tried speaking to the AIIMS administration failing which I approached the Hauz Khas police," the father said. 

According to the father, his daughter is on dialysis since March 14 last year and admitted to AIIMS.
