Look at this thread, and the reasons a few dalits give for their support to Vikram. It surprised me that people watch movies so keenly, noticing every aspect of it.

 

DMK was in power when the movie was released. Even then, he faced lots of problems from DMK for making that movie.

no. some OBC caste. MGR is definitely uppercaste. Its easy to diss a dalit in tamil movies these days. That is what the documentary is about.

 

It's about how some castes are showed as having lots of great history and power (similar to Indra sena reddy, Narasimha Naidu), and are picked up by young adults watching it. Especially at colleges where dalits face extreme discrimination because of the crap these movies feed the upper castes.

 

One of the dalit in that documentary specifically says that he doesn't like Ilayaraja (who's a dalit), because he made too many songs praising Thevars - who suppress dalits in their village. Though he likes Ilayaraja's music, he can never respect him as a person, he says.
