I don't have the patience to read periyar's views. I'm just afraid that I'll act like an upper caste areshole against an oppressed person, without my knowledge.

like a guy was telling me yesterday, a friend in kodambakkam, that there are lots of dalits in top positions in TN films, but no one will say their caste openly. eg. Vikram, Ilayaraja.

 

eg. when this guy, an ad film maker, went to Ilayaraja with a script on dalits in cuddalore, Ilayaraja looked at him with scorn, but was happy to be part of a project that did not involve highlighting dalits (positively or realistically).

I'm not talking rationalism. I'm talking representation. 

 

basic questions - Are dalits humans? How long will you portray a reddy/naidu helping them and lifting them out of poverty and celebrating it, etc? When will a hero (who's a dalit), rise based on his hard work and talent, and not hide the name of his dalit caste on movies.
