The 1996 Mount Everest disaster is a dark chapter in the history of climbing, when eight climbers, including two guides lost their lives to a blizzard near the summit. 

Journalist Jon Krakauer, who was on assignment with Outlook during that climb, later wrote his account of the tragedy in a book called Into Thin Air, which was then adapted as a film called Everest, directed by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur. Among others, it includes actors Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington.
