lazybugger Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 lol these guys are still stuck in the primitive stages ..... if yahoo is really that stupid , then it deserves to die ... just like blackberry ... blackberry didn't die because it was stupid. Also it didn't die. BlackBerry still has lots of revenue from enterprise solutions. It's hard to be a successful consumer product company outside the US. It has nothing to do with the lack of innovation, more than lack of access to a huge market. It required great courage to not go the path of Android. But it was an uphill battle to win against Google, and they lost gracefully. Yahoo hasn't come up with a decent product in decades. I live a stone's throw from its headquarters in waterloo. BlackBerry is the mother of all incubators here, and its founder is funding the research institute where I work now. We are all proud of what BlackBerry has done. It is the HP of Waterloo. Needless to say, almost everyone has a BlackBerry there. It is a wonderful phone. Even the migration software works seamlessly.

It never had the kind of revenue and profits to invest in all and sundry, like Google can. They can't catch every fad at the first chance they get. They have to keep their current customer base happy too. BlackBerry's OS is nothing short of impressive. The OS itself has a separate enterprise market, and probably runs in as many electronic devices as Android does, may be more. So don't count out BlackBerry just yet. I admit BlackBerry has been a little laggard in promoting its software's success in the Auto market, while Google is going around tom-toming about self driving cars, etc. It probably won't come back with a bang. But I don't see the company dying. It'll survive like IBM does. Yeah, I'm a huge investor in BlackBerry. Have been since 2013. I haven't seen a dividend yet :) BlackBerry is an insanely innovative company. But it has no future as a consumer device manufacturer. In fact no Canadian company can compete with the US biggies. Something to do with Canadian culture I guess.
lazybugger Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 BlackBerry can change the market if it releases its QNX software as opensource. Actually, if they do it, they can go under for a few years. But can come back stronger than probably even Google (in the mobile segment). Also since BlackBerry is still only a device manufacturer, and enterprise solutions provider, they'll still be behind the AI shyte Google is upto.

I'm not sure how long it can hold at this rate ... and coming to the innovation part , i cant quite remember the last innovative product that it has come up with in the recent past ....
lazybugger Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 but isn't RIM losing its enterprise market share at a rapid rate too ? especially to iOS .... I'm not sure how long it can hold at this rate ... and coming to the innovation part , i cant quite remember the last innovative product that it has come up with in the recent past .... iOS is a shyte Operating System. I'm surprised its been spoken of as an enterprise level OS. RIM will come back into the reckoning in embedded systems market if IoT becomes big. The QNX Neutrino OS is the most popular RTOS in the market. Even Android lags behind it. It is the defacto operating systems for all luxury auto brands, and many aerospace companies, and any mission critical systems. I don't think you've used a BlackBerry10. The OS in that is amazing. The only problem with that is that it doesn't have a huge market place. And most Android apps aren't yet ported. So the phone seems a bit barren. Innovation is not just about product innovation. If that was the case, US should be the most innovative country in the world. But it isn't. Plus, which device manufacturer has managed to carve their own niche in the era of Android? Apple is the exception. Samsung tried it and flopped. Nokia tried it and flopped even with Microsoft's backing. BlackBerry has made baby steps towards it, which will give them a huge advantage over other companies when the marketplace changes. They are not out of the game, yet. Far from it.

I've never Used BB OS10 but ive seen the Z10 device , it looks exactly like an iphone4 and the interface is pretty laggy ( though the OS looks far more superior than any other OS in the market ) .... and these guys have to be a little mad to release a 4" phone when the entire world is moving away from smaller screens .. the newer devices seem to be a little better but the're actually far from what people want ... RIM may not die but I dont think it'll ever get to the stage where it'll be as relevant as it used to be in the past ..
