Husband forces wife to abort female fetuses

An Indian man and his parents face charges after forcing the man’s wife to abort five female fetuses in the past nine years.

Amisha Yagnik, 32, lodged a complaint against her husband Priyavadan Bhatt, 35, and his parents claiming between 2001 and 2009 they forced her to undergo sex determination tests and abort fetuses found to be female, Express India reports. The couple has a 5-year-old daughter.

Police said the arrests of radiologist and gynecologists who carried out the sex-determination tests and abortions are likely.

Bhatt and his parents Gunvant, 67, and Niranjana, 64, of Vadodara were charged under various sections of Indian penal code of causing miscarriage without a woman’s consent.

Yagnik also claims they subjected her to mental and physical torture for not being able to conceive a male child.
