Maharashtra contributes 14.10% of total India's GDP with gross state domestic product around of 1,476,233 crore INR at current prices. India's most populated state Uttar Pradesh is at second position with share of 8.24%. Tamil Nadu (7.93%) is at 3rd, India's most economically free state Gujarat (7.31) is at 4th and West Bengal (6.75%) is at 5th position. For year 2014-15, data of 14 states/UTs are available. Tamil Nadu is at 2nd place ahead of Uttar Pradesh with GSDP 976,703 indian rupees as of 2014-15 data. At 2004-05 prices, Tamil Nadu is at second, Uttar Pradesh is at third position. India's largest states Rajasthan is at number 7, Poorest state Bihar is at number 14 and Capital Delhi is at number 10. Newly created state Telangana (3.74%) is at 12th position with GSDP Rs. 391,751. Andhra Pradesh (4.43%) is now at number 8. Top 5 states shares 44.55% in India's total economy. Five states of South India share 25.68%. Eight states of North-East India share 2.64%. 13 states/UTs has GSDP less than 1 lakh crore INR. A. & N. Islands has lowest GSDP in the list of 33 states/UTs. Next Inline come Mizoram, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur. In US Dollor, 7 states has economy of greater than $100 billion. Economy of Maharashtra is approx. $287 billion. GDP contribution of Indian states are in year 2013-14. To calculate GDP in Dollar, Formula = 2047.811*(contribution of state)/100. ( for example, gdp of Delhi = 2047.811*3.86/100. 3.86% is the contribution of delhi in Indian economy. According to IMF, GDP of India in 2014 is $2047.811 billion.)

Infact, TG as a whole is not rich, it's the home for the 5th richest city(HYD) in India. As of 2011 the city ranks as per their revenue are: 1. Mumbai - 209 Billion USD 2. Delhi - 167 Billion USD 3. Kolkata - 150 Billion USD 4. Bengaluru - 83 Billion USD 5. Hyderabad - 74 Billion USD 6. Chennai - 66 Billion USD 7. Ahmedabad - 64 Billion USD 8. Pune - 48 Billion USD 9. Surat - 40 Billion USD 10. Visakhapatnam - 26 Billion USD
