As an order is processed through the warehouse, there are several points where labels are printed.  The information on those labels comes from many columns, in several database tables.  When the information in those tables is first populated, it will often come in messages from a host.  The characters in those messages will be UTF-8 so that characters outside the normal ASCII character range can be accepted.  As I mentioned previously, the Zebra printer does not recognize UTF-8.  It needs the data to either be in the normal ASCII character set or in Unicode.

We need to be able to translate UTF-8 characters to Unicode without the data being in a file.

convert UTF8 to UNICODE In unix.
these UTF8 code would be 1 to 4 bites and those are characters.
and these UNICODE will be in 2 bites and these are characters too.
these should be printed in a chinese language from the printer anadu
